The Chamber of Shipping of British Columbia (COS) represents the interest of international and domestic ship owners, operators, and agencies engaged in marine transportation in Canada’s Asia-Pacific corridor. Working together with industry partners and regulatory bodies, the Chamber of Shipping facilitates dialogue to promote an effective legislative environment and best practices that continue to support and maintain the ecologically sound and robust network for goods and travellers trading via Canada’s West Coast ports.

Canada works closely with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to establish global standards that can be adopted into its regulatory framework, providing safe, secure and environmentally responsible navigation for vessels trading in or transitting through Canadian waters.
Canada is a founding member of the IMO and has been elected to Council without interruption since 1959. This dedicated effort will continue in order to advance an international framework for safe, secure and sustainable marine practices, a sound marine infrastructure, and to protect the marine environment.
