Did you know that there are over 5.25 trillion pieces of trash in the ocean?
Join the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA), the Westerly Recreation Department, and New England Science and Sailing (NESS) to clean up Westerly's treasured coastal area. The event will take place on Saturday, March 24th from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm at the "Old" Town Beach, located at 365 Atlantic Ave, Westerly, RI 02891. Volunteers will focus on cleaning marine debris from the beachfront and the adjacent salt pond. Rain date is Saturday, April 7th.
Please wear clothes and shoes that can get dirty. In efforts to make this event as low-impact as possible, we ask volunteers to bring their own buckets, bags, and work gloves. However, bags and gloves will be provided.
No registration required. Just show up, and get ready to pick up some trash and to Save Our Seas! For more information please contact Nina at firstname.lastname@example.org, and to learn more about marine debris visit NAMEPA's education page.
This event is to celebrate World Water Day, an event held by the United Nations to spread awareness on the importance of conserving water resources. Not local to the New England area but want to get involved? Check out the UN'S World Water Day event map.
